The 2014 American Medical Association (AMA) International Conference on Physician Health from 15-17th Sept 2014, being hosted this year by the British Medical Association (BMA) in London will be attended Dr Alastair Dobbin from the Foundation for Positive Mental Health and Chris Manning, convenor of AfNHSW.
The conference programme includes streams on all the following topics:
Physical and mental health in medical students
The transition from study to practice
Professionalism and professional resilience
Stress, coping strategies and burnout
Retirement
End of life care
Dame Carol Black’s opening address will focus on the groundswell in approaches to health and work, discussing issues of longevity and the workplace.
Professor Jim Lucey’s multimedia presentation, the closing address, will focus on how a dramatic moment in his career affected pilot Chesley Sullenberger, and what doctors can learn from his experience.
Chris will be attending the entire event with a poster and will also use every available opportunity to highlight the lack of systemic concern and care for the wellbeing of those who work in and for the NHS. Alastair and Chris will be sharing a workshop on the final day at which Alastair will highlight his work and Chris the work and objectives of AfNHSW:
